Things to do before "officially" joining the Earley Lab (send by e-mail to Dr. Earley):
1. Send an informal picture for the lab website. See the "About the Lab" page for examples.
2. Send your cell phone # so that we can organize team meetings, etc.
3. Go to this site, scroll to where you see "Students are Required to Take the Following Training", click the link, and complete the following courses (Aseptic Surgery, Working with Fish in Research Settings, and Working with the IACUC). Once these are completed, send me PDFs or Screenshots of your “successful completion certificates”! In order to work with animals, these modules have to be fully completed. Some instructions:
4. Complete the Animal Care Facility (ACF) registration form and the Health History Form. Turn in copies of these forms to Dr. Earley. For the ACF registration form:
5. Look out for confirmation that you've been added to the Earley Lab listserv. Dr. Earley uses this listserv to distribute information about internships, summer research opportunities, grants, etc. to students and to communication laboratory information in bulk.
6. Follow the lab on Twitter! @MangroveRivulus. I post lots of cool science, opportunities, etc.
7. For undergraduates: even if you don't plan to take BSC 398 (Undergraduate Research), I encourage you to review my expectations for undergraduate research under the Prospective Undergraduate Students section of the website.
8. For graduates: please review information for prospective (and current) graduate students.
9. Familiarize yourself with the website, which has lists of student grants, information about research, lists of Earley lab publications, and loads of laboratory information about feeding fish, IACUC training, and so forth.
